Alchemic Studio in Repose

May 28, 2011

There’s good news and there’s bad news. I’ll start with the bad news. Alchemic Studio is, for the foreseeable future, in hibernation. The good news is that the members of the team have now all graduated and are working in the software industry, many of us in games!

Alchemic Studio’s first purpose was to be a tool for learning about game development. Now that all of the original members have jobs in games or software Alchemic Studio’s first purpose has been fulfilled.

What’s next for Alchemic Studio? The team has always dreamed of reuniting some day in the future as a professional independent game studio. I can’t say when that day will come, or if we’ll even be called Alchemic Studio, but you can bet that one day you’ll be playing one of our games!

Thanks for your support and thanks to the team for sticking in there with me!

Circuit has reached its next big milestone and a new version has been uploaded to the Marketplace. The game now features a full menu, animated sprites, and a text rendering system that is far more efficient than the previous version.

The biggest improvement is the addition of artwork for the game’s background, you can see examples of Circuit’s new look and feel above.

Agonoid Challenge at Explore UT

March 5, 2011
by Joey

Alchemic Studio and EGaDS (Electronic Game Developer Society) held a game showcase and competition this weekend at Explore UT, the University of Texas’ open house to families, friends, and residents of Texas. Agonoid, along with three other games from EGaDS members, were shown off and played by the kids (and adults) in attendance. The winner of the Agonoid Challenge (determined by highest score in playing through the campaign) was awarded the DS version of Metal Slug, his score was 17340.

The whole event was a blast but my favorite part was hearing the parents of kids playing our games getting frustrated with their child’s inability to tear themselves away. The kids kept asking for “just one more game!” – I remember trying to use that line on my parents :)

Completing the Circuit

Our latest project, Circuit, for the Android OS, is well under way. Circuit is a puzzle game where players lay down wire on a node grid in an attempt to build a circuit that will get their spark from the starting node to the end node. In between these nodes are “speed gates” which the spark must travel through at certain speeds to continue on.

Players will have to optimize their circuits to pass all the gates and beat the level.

An early version of Circuit is available now on the Android Market, the final release will be available in May.
